Who We Are
We are a Bellingham, Washington based, full-service hardscaping company. We specialize in designing, sculpting, and collaborating with clients to create spaces that utilize wood, steel and natural stone. From residential to commercial environments, we strive for a harmonious relationship between nature, structure, and humankind.
You can find our projects in Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan, Island, and Snohomish Counties primarily, as well as throughout the state. Out-of-state projects are welcomed depending on their scope and size. We’re experienced in working with home owners, architects, landscape designers, and stone suppliers.

I engaged Borrowed Ground to replace old wooden stairs in two places in my back garden and improve the drainage. When I met Russ, I told them we wanted the work to fit in as much as possible with the garden structure already in place. We really appreciated Russ’s attention to our environment. He suggested drainage that is perfect for our lot. A complete improvement! The granite stairs are handsome – our neighbors like them too. Russ is a lover of stone and I learned much by watching his crew work. They were all friendly and polite as well as obviously hard workers. Thrilled at the transformation of my yard – Russ and his team did an incredible job. Rock retaining wall, two sets of stairs, and patio areas front and rear. Such an incredible upgrade from the boring 90s layout the house came with.
With respect to high quality landscape/hardscape design and implementation you “get what you pay for”…. After a major large project for our new house, four years ago, I recently contacted Russ(the owner) and Tate from Borrowed Ground for a smaller project, and they were extremely responsive and once again, their high-quality work exceeded expectations. In this day and age when much in the construction business is purely transactional, Russ and BG staff help create a bit of Eden at a persons home with artistry and great communication skills.
